DJ Talent, Laban Roomes & Margo
DJ Talent, Margo and Laban Roomes were sent to Ghana then South Africa to experience life as a gold miner, the effect it has on the community and how people mined without the appropriate equipment due to poverty. In the case of South Africa during Apartheid, when it was illegal to provide correct clothing for black miners because they were considered lessor than animals – subsequently risking their lives to bring us “gold”. The trip was to educate these individuals through sponsoring families and to make a TV programme specifically for the BBC. The South African miners, who were denied equipment during Apartheid and contracted lung disease, are currently suing the government and it’s expected they will receive record-breaking compensation once the settlement is finalized. For this journey, three individuals were selected due to their involvement with gold; DJ Talent for his teeth, Margo’s string of jeweler’s countrywide and Laban Roomes for his gold plating business. Celedor, makers of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” for BBC, filmed the whole experience.

Yes, Bombay Sapphire is auctioning off 19 exclusive martini glasses to raise money for cancer research. Based on Peter Crisp’s original ornate glass designed in 2000, 50% of the proceeds raised will be donated to the Cure For Life Foundation. Designers Peter Crisp, Tom Dixon, Karim Rashid, Marcel Wanders, Eva Zeisel, Ulla Darna, Dakota Jackson and Michael Graves have all given a helping hand and we love it.

Inspired by vacuum flasks, references to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic medals, these Tom Dixon Void lamp designs are unique. The lamps are made out of solid sheets of brass, copper and stainless steel. We wonder how they would they look like embellished in 24ct gold or chrome, silver maybe even nickel? Either way, they are truly remarkable and would love to have some of these in our golden palace.
Phab Gold is a deep colour rose with a fragrance 3 to 5 medium. Tends to blossom late spring to frost and was introduced to the UK in 1998. Too bad we were not able to find a flower for a picture but just loved the Phab Gold name.
